The CalAmericana Association's benefits begin with networking. News published on the
Home
page offers information about California's roots Americana communities. Bands and venues can locate one another on the Bands page. Bands can find places to play on the
Venues page. Fans can find where the music is playing on the Calendars page. The DJs
page add California's spinners from radio, clubs and the Internet into the mix.
CalAmericana is currently expanding its presence on
MySpace
and volunteers are working to ugrade current pages and add new ones. Soon CalAmericana will publish lists of festivals, street fairs and event planners to open more opportunities for live roots music. CalAmericana also works with other music associations, radio stations, and is starting a Southern California chapter to make its representation truly statewide. Future plans include lists for booking, press contacts, publicity, instrument repair, sound studios and more of the music infrastructure.
The CalAmericana Association is actively engaged in audience building. California is, after all, the most populous state and the world's sixth-largest economy. Californian's need to know
where Californians are playing so along with its links to local calendars, CalAmericana will publish fliers listing regularly scheduled roots Americana events.
Ultimately, the CalAmericana
Association will provide services much like record companies did back in the day when there were record companies. Only this time it will be about promoting roots Americana from twanger-songwriters to
honky-tonkers instead of a chosen few bands. Roots Americana plays nightly throughout the Golden State and the CalAmericana Association is dedicated to connecting the music and the audience.
